We were delighted when we recently heard from Jon & Theresa who had rehomed a cat that we rescued last year.
“We decided we wanted to get a cat for our daughters as they had been pestering us for years for a pet but we felt it was only this year that they were old enough to look after one.
We signed up with the RSPCA and started enquiring about the cats on the national website and after about two weeks we were introduced to Milo.
Milo is a sweet natured ginger and white tom who came to us via the lovely people at the RSPCA South London branch and Fernlea Cattery.
When we picked him up we were told that he was shy and would probably take 4 to 6 weeks to want to come out of the space we had prepared for him in the old bathroom.

That was true for a day or two when he spent most of his time under the boiler cupboard. He didn’t mind being stroked under there, but he wasn’t budging. Then he spent a couple of days getting used to the room and the stuff in it.
We were going in and out quite a bit because we store things there and he was just getting friendlier and friendlier.
When he started scratching at the door, we left it open a little and day by day he explored a bit more of the house. It’s now just under two weeks since we picked him up from the cattery and he has the run of the whole house during the day and downstairs at night.

This seems to suit him fine as he is waiting for us at the kitchen door in the morning, purring and as pleased to see us as we are him.
Milo loves to be stroked, adores coming for a cuddle on the sofa in the evenings, but is very clear when he has had enough or just fancies his own chair rather than sitting with you.
When he is up for it, he loves to play, chasing his toys around the house at top speed. Quite simply, Milo is a brilliant cat and we are so pleased we could give him a home.
We can’t speak highly enough of the people at the RSPCA and Fernlea cattery and the brilliant work they do.
We filled out a form, had a nice conversation with Jacqui from the RSPCA South London branch on the phone and sent some sent some pictures and a description of our house.
Once we were accepted, we paid a £70 adoption fee, (which included neutering, vaccinations and microchipping, which is amazing) and arranged to pick him up.
Everything about the experience was easy and reassuring. You knew that what you were being told about Milo had his best interests at heart and that professional people had made decisions that were best for him.
Thanks to all involved. You have made 4 people and 1 cat very happy!
