Helping an animal and its owner at a time of need……

Recently we took a call from Donna who was facing difficulties with a large vet’s bill.

So what happened? Here are Donna’s own words.

“One day on his walk my German Shepherd Trajan couldn’t continue walking, so I took him to my vets. They tried 3 different types of medication to alleviate the discomfort he was suffering, before deciding that he needed an x-Ray to pinpoint what the issue was.

During his x-ray they found he had an enlarged spleen that would require an ultrasound, blood tests & biopsy.

The final prognosis was that as well as an enlarged spleen he also had severe arthritis, which was a relief for me as I feared it could have been worse news.

He has since settled with the prescribed medication and is thankfully able to have his walks again. However, I faced a hefty vet bill of over £1,000 and due to my finances taking a hit due to the pandemic, I was struggling to pay it all.

I could not take him to the PDSA as I was not getting council tax benefit, but luckily I had some cash that I had saved for carpet that paid off some of the bill. I was however left with a deficit.

That’s where the RSPCA came in. They assessed my situation and agreed to pay some of the bill for me. Trajan & I are very grateful for their help!”

We are glad that we were able to assist Trajan & Donna and that there has been a happy ending.

We cannot promise we can help everybody, but if you or somebody you know ever faces a similar situation, please do contact us. Our contact details can be found here.

This is just one example of the veterinary assistance we give. We also help with neutering & microchipping costs where needed.
