March 2022 Pet of the Month – Clive the Cockapoo

Owners Katie & JC have nominated Clive as our latest pet of the month. Here is what Katie had to say.

Clive is a 16-month-old cockapoo living in South West London and has been living with us since he was 9 weeks old.

We had planned to go travelling in April 2020 and get a dog when we returned, however covid-19 hit and after 8 months of lockdown, we realised we couldn’t wait any longer and got Clive in December 2020. This means our plans for any long-term travels are off the cards, but now we have this fluffy bundle of joy!

Luckily, we have plenty of willing and eager dog sitters for when we take our shorter holidays.

Fortunately, we didn’t have any issues of Clive destroying anything in our house, but we were both surprised by how tough those first few weeks were.

I had a dog growing up but because I was young when we got her, I don’t remember the difficult phases. Those first few weeks with Clive were a real learning curve and we both realised how tough it is to be the people fully responsible for his safety, training and everything in between.  

Since having Clive we have made friends with lots of other local dog owners who we see in the park every day, which has created a nice community of people who can support each other. Having a dog is such a conversation starter in parks, brunch spots and pubs as people often want to come and say hi to him (which he loves!).

Clive is such a sweet dog with a lovely temperament. On walks he loves being chased, playing fetch with his mini rugby ball and digging up mud; but indoors he loves nothing more than to cuddle up on the sofa to a bit of Netflix or whoever Liverpool happen to be playing.

One of my favourite things about Clive is the way he behaves once he is told it’s time for bed. He will pretend he hasn’t heard you and once he realises he needs to leave the room, he will look back at us with every step he takes to check in case we’ve changed our minds. Those puppy eyes really do work magic sometimes. 

We have no regrets about getting Clive whatsoever – he makes every day special and we love him to bits. 

Clive has his own Instagram page and has become quite a little celebrity in South West London!
