Back Garden Visitors

Back gardens are a haven for very welcome guests and with just a little effort you can encourage all sorts of wildlife into your garden.

Perhaps the most obvious of visitors are birds. We can see and hear them from dawn to dusk and what a delight they are. For a bit of fun, see how many of these 20 you recognise on this on-line quiz.

Attracting them is easy. The RSPCA has published advice on how to feed them. Bird food can be quite expensive but the good news is that major supermarkets and pound shops have a good budget range.

Animals can be harder to spot as many are nocturnal. We are likely to see foxes and squirrels during the daytime, but badgers, hedgehogs, dormice and the like are more likely to show themselves at night.

So how to see those nocturnal visitors? Julie Connick who manages our shop in Croydon has recently set up a camera system at her home to spot those night time visitors. This is what she recently captured.

You do not need expensive food to attract such visitors. Just some bread or cheap dog food will do the trick. Again the RSPCA has published some handy tips.
