Kerrie and her family recently adopted a pair of cats. She takes up the story…..
At the end of March we lost our beautiful 19 year old cat, Scarface Claw, to kidney disease. Our remaining cats, 19 year old Slinki Malinky and 3 year old Patata Black, were lost without him, especially Patata who spent hours playing with him.
Sadly, after his death Slinki never expressed any interest in playing with Patata and she became very withdrawn, so our family decided to look for a pair of rescue cats to keep her company. We only ever take in rescue cats and after much searching on the RSPCA website, late one night we found Gracie and Hugo and applied to adopt them from the RSPCA South London Branch.

Eagerly awaiting a reply and in anticipation of being contacted for more information, early the following morning we sent a full set of photos of our home to show that we were suitable candidates for adoption. As we hit send, we instantly received an email sent at exactly the same minute from the branch asking for photos of our home! From this point onward, it felt as if Gracie and Hugo were destined to be with us.
Jacqui, from RSPCA South London, was very helpful and made the whole adoption process a pleasant experience. Their foster mum was wonderfully encouraging and welcoming too, sending lots of photos, information and advice. The time between applying for adoption and bringing the kitties home flew by and now they are here, settling in well, slowly getting to know their surroundings and their bigger cat friends.
They now have different names (Mochi and Miso – we have a tradition of naming our cats after food or children’s story book characters) and we’re as pleased as punch that we were successful in adopting them, they bring us all endless laughter and joy.

Thank you to all of the RSPCA team and animal foster carers for doing such a great job in helping animals in need.
Thank you Kerrie for adopting the kittens and for your kind words.
It costs several hundred pounds to look after and provide vet care & treatment for a rescue cat before they are ready to be re-homed. Last year we rescued 75 cats and this year has already been very busy. If you are able to spare a few pounds to help us provide welfare for cats and other domestic animals, please hit the donate button on this site.
We and the animals would be extremely grateful.
