Today is Australia day. It marks the 1788 landing of the First Fleet at Sydney Cove and raising of the Union Flag by Arthur Phillip following days of exploration in the region.
In present day Australia, celebrations aim to reflect the diverse society and incredible landscape of the nation.
Australia is also a nation of animal lovers and they have their own RSPCA charity dedicated to animal welfare.
Domestic animals are much the same as in the UK, though of course wildlife is very different. Koalas, Kangaroos, Wallabies, Duck-Billed Platypus, Dingoes, Wombats and Tasmanian Devils to name just a few.

Many of these species have sadly suffered devastating losses through wildfires in recent years, with the RSPCA over there certainly being extremely stretched.
In the UK, the RSPCA is also there for our badgers, foxes, hedgehogs etc., so please help us in our welfare work if you are able (see this website for details).
