Back at the end of October we received a call from the inspectorate team who had been attending a scene with a stray cat involved. This cat had sores on the bottom of her hind feet, some matting, and appeared to be overgrooming the back half of her body due to a flea infestation.

It is unclear what the story of this cat was, but the inspector was able to take her in once the people in the local area confirmed she was not owned. Being a Friday night that Vienna was rescued, we were able to get her immediately to one of our boarding kennels and to get her assessed early the following week.

She was to have a long road ahead of her! It wasn’t clear what was causing the sores on her hind feet, but we realised quickly that the pain of them stopped her from sitting upright. Instead she would arch her back end as if she desperately wanted to sit but couldn’t, and eventually she would go straight into a lying position.
The wounds were cleaned out, she was treated for fleas and was given a cone to stop her overgrooming and bothering the sores.
The cattery owner and our Animal Welfare Officer (Cheska) came up with the name Vienna; as we are sure you can agree she looks sophisticated and exotic enough to suit the name!
Whenever Cheska came to the cattery Vienna would be the first one to come running out to greet her, even if Cheska wasn’t there to see her. It was a delight to see how friendly she was!
The sores closed relatively quickly, but understandably it took her a couple of weeks longer to trust that she could sit up straight and put her feet fully in contact with the ground now without it causing pain.
Just before Christmas we managed to find her a home with Ella in the beautiful countryside. Ella was very keen to have her. When Cheska visited to check out Vienna’s potential new home, she was very excited for Vienna. The environment was very quiet, lots of woods and countryside; it was perfect scenery for a cat as stunning as her.
Vienna’s name was changed to Lana and she was able to begin her new life with her new cat sister Lilly and dog sister Flo.

We’ve been sent some lovely photos of Lana settling in, and we are so happy to see her sitting down on the back of her feet now that the pain of her sores are gone! She has figured out which cupboard has all the yummy food in it and she is clearly ruling the house along with her new sisters, even taking up all the furniture! Ella has given us some of her own words:
“Lana’s settled in quickly and made friends with our other animals Lily and Flo. She lives to eat and her favourite treats are cheese Dreamies washed down with Whiskers Cat milk. She is very affectionate and will let you cuddle and brush her all day. We are so glad to have rehomed her and she is now living a spoilt and pampered life!”
