RSPCA at the Chelsea Flower Show

Thanks to the generous funding from Project Giving Back, the RSPCA currently have a garden at the RHS Chelsea Flower show.

Designed by Martyn Wilson, the garden has been created as a sanctuary for people and wildlife to enjoy. The show judges were suitably impressed, awarding the garden its Silver Gilt award.

All the planting is geared towards attracting pollinators, and there are havens for hedgehogs, bats, sparrows and different species of bee dotted throughout the garden. More information about the garden can be found at RSPCA Chelsea.

Our own chairman Will Linsdell had the pleasure of volunteering at the garden and he says, “it was a wonderful experience to be at the beautiful garden meeting visitors to explain the concept of the garden. Everybody was really positive and all took some inspiration for their own gardens.

With wildlife numbers shrinking as habitats disappear, it is so important that we dedicate at least some of our gardens & community spaces to wildlife. Planting flowers that attract bees & butterflies, creating areas that hedgehogs can thrive in, and leaving out food & water for all wildlife are simple things that we can all do.”

After the show, every tree, shrub, plant & flower, together with the water features, wildlife hide, dry stone wall and other elements will be moved to the RSPCA Wildlife Centre at Stapeley Grange in Cheshire, where it can hopefully inspire people for generations.

Will took a few photos of the garden and you can view a gallery below. If you like what you see, please vote for us as your favourite sanctuary garden at the Show. Voting closes at 7pm tonight so please be quick. Vote HERE.
