You are very likely to see a mouse in your garden, outbuildings or even in your house. They are lightning quick and prefer to stay hidden away from humans and of course predatory cats. Often it’s the signs of their existence that you see rather than the mice themselves – chewed cardboard, pinched bird food, tiny droppings etc.
The Woodland Trust website has excellent articles about our native mice, of which there are five – house, field, harvest, yellow-necked and dormouse. The gallery of pictures below are from their website.

Sadly, in common with much of our wildlife, populations of mice are dwindling. You can help them by leaving parts of your garden wild, gathering Autumn leaves into piles, and putting out bird food that they will happily share.
The RSPCA also has advice on mice on its website, including how to deter or remove them from your home in a humane way.

Please send us pictures of any mice or other wildlife that you spot in your garden or out and about. We will then share them on this website or our social media pages. Send to office@rspcasouthlondon.org.uk
