Re-Wilding Our Area

Re-Wilding Projects

We are keen to start organic re-wilding projects in our area (Croydon Borough, Tooting, Mitcham & Balham), in partnership with community groups.

The idea is to take some derelict land (up to approximately 5 metres x 5 metres) and transform it into a wildlife haven that can be enjoyed by the community all year round.

Bee RSPCA South London

Do you belong to a community group such as a residents association, youth group or perhaps a community centre? Is there some public land by you, or perhaps a patch that you own, that could be transformed with a little care & effort? If so, we want to hear from you.

What Would RSPCA South London Provide?

We would seek permission from the relevant authority to undertake a project in the name of your group and RSPCA South London, assess its suitability for re-wilding, help plan the garden, provide expert guidance, supervise and get involved in the work, and bring some pollinating plants & seeds to plant/sow.

What Do We Ask For In Return?

First of all we need an enthusiatic group to work with us on the project, and then all we ask is that the group maintain (and hopefully improve) the area in the future.

We can bring some equipment, but it would be great if the community could also bring their own garden forks & spades, rakes, hoes, seives, trowels, waste bags etc.

Garden In Coulsdon

We recently joined up with a residents group in Coulsdon to help transform a neglected public garden. Volunteers cut grass, pruned shrubs & bushes, dug flower beds, took out weeds etc.

We then planted up some lavender that should flourish to provide bees & butterflies with vital nectar, as well as providing wonderful colour & scent. See the gallery below.

What Next?

If you would like to be considered for a re-wilding project with RSPCA South London, please send an e-mail with details of your group and where the project would be to enquiries@rspcasouthlondon.org.uk

Local Businesses

Would you like to get involved? It could be a great opportunity for your team to undertake a team bonding activity with community benefit, or maybe you would like to donate the likes of plants, seeds & compost. If you would like to work with us, please also email the address above.
