Urgent Appeal for Bandit: Help Save a Life!

Cat resting

Last week, we received a call about a young female cat found in Mitcham. A kind member of the public had been feeding her for some time and believed she was pregnant. Her body had become noticeably round, her coat was in poor condition, and she was showing signs of labour.

To help her, we arranged to take her in, but given the possibility of her giving birth soon, we decided to allow her to settle and have her kittens in peace before we moved her.

However, what we discovered was completely unexpected.

A quick ultrasound revealed that she was not pregnant but was instead suffering from pyometra, a serious infection that had caused her abdomen to swell, making it look like she was carrying kittens. Our veterinarians acted quickly, performing emergency surgery to remove the infected uterus.

Following the surgery, Bandit was placed on fluids and antibiotics, and she is now recovering well in the care of one of our dedicated fosterers, who has lovingly named her Bandit due to her unique facial markings.

The total cost of the surgery and treatment came to £866. This was an unforeseen situation, and the costs have significantly impacted our already limited budget. If Bandit had been pregnant, the expenses for caring for her and rehoming her kittens would have been spread out over time. Instead, we had to act quickly to save her life. We are now reaching out to you, in our community for support.

We are kindly asking for your donations to help cover the costs of Bandit’s emergency care and the follow-up treatment she will require.

As a small, independent RSPCA branch supported by just three charity shops, we rely entirely on the generosity of our local community.

Thank you for your support in helping Bandit and other animals in need. Together, we can make a difference!

Please donate today – every penny really does help!
