Adopt An Animal

Once our rescue animals have seen the vet, and we’ve had a little time to get to know them, and understand their wants and needs, we will put them up for adoption.

You will see them advertised on this page with all the info you need to know: Where they came from, what sort of home they’re used to, and what sort of home they require going forward, whether they can live with children, or other animals etc.

Before adopting, please carefully consider if you are able to give the animal a good home? Kittens need a lot of care and interaction. We will not rehome single kittens to anyone who is out for more than 4 hours at a time, for a pair of kittens, the longest they can be left alone is 6 hours.

Do you have a garden? All our cats (unless FIV positive) will need to have access to a safe outside area.

Can you afford to look after this animal? It is estimated that to feed a cat for a year, it typically costs around £600, litter will set you back around £150 a year. Vet checks, annual vaccinations, flea and worming treatment, which are the basics of cat health, will cost around £240 every year. You’re looking at around £1,000 per year for basic care, on top of that you will need to think about insurance, and boarding fees if you plan to go away without the cat. And remember, cats can live into their twenties! We think every cat is worth the money, but you need to make sure you fully understand the responsibility you are taking on before you go ahead and adopt.

Once you have carefully considered the practicalities and you have found an animal you would like to adopt, please download and complete the Perfect Match adoption form. Submit the form to enquiries@rspcacroydon.org.uk and we will go through the details to check if you’re suitable. If we think you’d be a good match, we will arrange a virtual home check. This involves you sending photos / videos of your main living areas, where you think the animal will eat / sleep / toilet, outside areas, and access to them. If that is approved, we will put you in touch with the cattery or the foster home where the animal is and they can tell you more info about the animal and send you more pictures. If you’re still happy you want to adopt then you can arrange to collect!

All our animals are vet checked, neutered (where possible – some kittens will be too young to be neutered before they leave us, but we will cover the cost at a vet close to you), vaccinated, microchipped, and given flea and worm treatment.

Please visit the national website for lots of helpful information about bringing your cat home for the first time: https://www.rspca.org.uk/findapet/adopters

We love to hear how you’re getting on so please do keep in touch afterwards – we love a re-homing success story!
